Imagine a performance where the audience are in charge. A show where anything can happen but feels like it was always meant to be. The performers are primed and ready to take your wildest suggestions and then expertly weave them into a full length musical. Everything is improvised; the characters, the songs and the story. It's a night never to be repeated!
Our brave team of performers and musicians will take your whacky ideas and transform them into a spontaneous mini musical, right before your eyes. Our audience provide the core ingredients: a setting, a musical style and the title of the show and then with brain synapses firing, electrical impulses switching and sound waves flowing the What’s the Score players will present full songs, snazzy choreography and fascinating characters in a story that’s never been seen before!
Will you witness an opera about the discovery of a new diamond mine, a hip-hop battle between feuding intergalactic scientists or a jazz-soaked spooky adventure in a deserted farmhouse? The choice is entirely up to you! So what’s the Score? You tell us!

Western-Dyer Productions have a proven track record over 10 years of successful touring throughout regional and rural Queensland and Western Australia. With a thorough understanding of what communities want and need, the company has consistently produced and toured popular shows including 'Barbara and Barry's Sweet, Sour and Saucy', 'The Roaring Twenties', 'Oh Lady Be Good', 'Lissa and Nee Nee Space Adventure' and 'Lissa and Nee Nee Adventure Time'.
The team have travelled locally and globally to key festivals (Edinburgh Fringe, Woodford Folk Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Queensland Music Festival, Brisbane Festival) and have toured twice with the UK NRTS (Ella, Marilyn Marlene and Me, Lush Life, Oh Lady Be Good). They are known and respected for their refined skills, spontaneity and authenticity.

Unique Selling Point
What's the score? brings to audiences a mainstream genre (the musical) combined with a cutting edge twist (improvisation). The cast are not only fantastic musical theatre performers and musicians but they are also well versed in current politics, pop culture, entertainment and history.
Audience members have a unique opportunity to guide and goad the performers and see them navigate tricky requests to bring to life a never-before-seen story and characters. This is an extremely exhilarating night of performance with lots of laughs, great music and even the occasional gasp!

The team is led by Melissa Western who was awarded a prestigious Churchill Fellowship to pursue her passion for improvised music theatre. She travelled to the UK and completed an extended sabbatical training with companies including Olivier-award-winning company The Showstoppers, Baby Wants Candy, The Maydays and Open Your Mouth and Sing.

Workshop: Sing and act for joy
Our improvised musical theatre workshop has been praised for its accessibility and innovation. Recurring comments include “It felt so good to be given permission to play again”, “I never knew I was capable of doing this” and “this workshop broke down barriers within our group/community”.

This 60 minute workshop is fast-paced and full of joy! We will look at group singing, improvised singing and musical theatre styles. Playful and liberating, the activities in this workshop can help bolster self-confidence and inspire renewed creativity.
You’ll get involved with the essential skills for creating spontaneous songs and musical theatre. Ideal for anyone who loves to sing and wants to have a bit of fun while they’re at it!
