IT ALL BEGINS WITH LOVE is a short, 35 minute verbatim theatre work presenting the real-life stories of victims of domestic violence. An ensemble of five female actors presents a rollercoaster of a play as these five stories intersect.

The production has been meticulously developed with the input of domestic and family violence experts, service organisations, police and victims themselves. This is a great opportunity to present a confronting work that will start new conversations in your community about the issue.

Creative Regions is partnering with UnitingCare Community on developing a Queensland tour for October/November 2015. With our UnitingCare Community partners, we will offer a 30 minute debrief and Q&A session at the end of the production. Allow a minimum of one hour for this experience.

Considerations

The play includes strong, coarse language so discretion should be used. The show has played to 15 year-old students and to a broader community audience. Creative Regions recommends 15+.

Unique Selling Point

This is a unique way of starting important conversations in your community. The premiere production in Bundaberg in 2014 was incredibly well received by school students, teachers and the broader community. The production is flexible and portable and can operate in a full theatrical environment or in a low-tech school or community space.

Marketing Materials

Curriculum notes have been developed by a curriculum developer from Education Queensland. These will be made available to all schools. Marketing templates (posters, flyers) will be made available. A video of the premiere production will be available later in 2015.

Community Engagement

We have found that the post-show discussion is more moving and raw than the show itself. Consideration could be given to how this production can become a major part of community 'say No' campaigns - this worked effectively for the premiere performance. Creative Regions are happy to tailor opportunities to presenters' needs.
