Infused with intense physical theatre, film and dance, Shaun Parker’s Blue Love is a poetic and satirical take on the clichés of pop culture, romance, coupledom and suburbia. From a fantastic place where TV soap meets art-house film, Glenn and Rhonda Flune take the audience on an expedition in search of the perfect relationship.

Blue Love is inspired by famous works of art, theatre, music and film; all of which deal with the concept of love. Glenn and Rhonda draw on and reference all of these art forms, parodying the lip-service given to love and its incarnations. This quirky, character-based work is a multi-media, physical theatre comedy: accessible, challenging and enormously entertaining.

Considerations

There is some brief nudity in the show (not full frontal). Some humorous adult references. Free beer and popcorn is handed out at the beginning of the performance.

Community Engagement

Our experience from touring this work in the past is that audiences from all walks of life adore it and have a fantastically entertaining night out. This work is also particularly great for audiences who have not had a lot of experience with dance - the work cleverly uses humour and physical storytelling so that audiences can engage with dance within a familiar theatrical narrative that employs the use of music, film and references to popular culture.

There are opportunities to engage the community in a number of unique ways. There is an option to use a live dog in the performance and in the past we have used social media to invite locals to volunteer their pooch for a performance which has been a great way to reach out to the community and get them intrigued and participating. The characters Glenn and Rhonda can also run a tango lesson for the audience on stage prior to the beginning of the performance. We have also facilitated a surprise marriage proposals on stage at the end of the performance!

The company is also committed to working with the local arts community to develop skills and encourage creative participate through masterclasses and workshops.
