The warm and welcoming Biloela is situated in the shire of Banana. The origin of the name Biloela comes from an Aboriginal word for cockatoo. Locally known as ‘The Shire of Opportunity’, the town has a number of thriving industries in cotton, wheat, and meat supplies. Biloela was also home to the first open-cut mine, which was established in 1942. The town hosts its annual Speech and Drama Eisteddfod in May and August, and the Callide Valley Show in May.
Biloela is 570 km (6.5 hr drive) north of Brisbane and 120 km (1.5 hr drive) west of port city, Gladstone.
