Objectives

Our entertainment preferences surveys in the region indicate that shows with music are most in demand, followed by live music, comedy and shows for family/children.

Shows that can be played cabaret style, or accommodate food and drink time as part of the event work well as a complete night out.

Shows that succeed in reaching out and engaging the audience are great in small communities as it is easy to create a community feel when people are familiar with each other. Our experience indicates that audience enjoyment in regional areas is less about being "impressed" and more about being "entertained".

Audience Insights

At this early stage, we don't know our audience very well. We had a surprising mix of ages for our first touring show. There are many older people in the region and retirees. There aren't many people in the 18 to 35 age group.

School workshops are a challenge in this venue as travel costs to get students here is prohibitive. The high school is not in this town. One primary school is in Esk. There are many little schools throughout the region - all of which would need transport.

Additional Information

Accommodation in the town directly is minimal (37 beds), so should be booked well in advance. Several large annual community events would interfere with audience attendance even if they fall within the same week (not just the same day). Week nights are always a challenge in regional areas because there is no public transport.
