When presenting an Indigenous Australian performance or event, it is respectful to invite a representative of the traditional owners to attend and present a "welcome to country" address.  A "welcome to country" is an address given by the custodian of the land.  Alternatively, an Indigenous person of prominence or an elder who has lived in the area and contributed to the Indigenous community may be asked to acknowledge country if they are not in a position to welcome.

It is also respectful for others speaking officially before a performance or event to make and introductory acknowledgement of the owners of the land.  It is suggested advice be sought from the Indigenous community on the preferred manner of acknowledgement and the relevant groups to be acknowledged.
