The Australian Taxation Office has developed a simple six page fact sheet about how to set out a tax invoice. It includes several layout examples to guide you on where to place key details. It's a good idea to follow these standards to ensure your tax invoices are easy to read and most importantly easy to process.

Details to include on your Tax Invoice

  1. Supplier identity
  2. Supplier ABN
  3. Date of issue
  4. Include the words 'Tax Invoice'
  5. Invoice number
  6. Purchaser's identity (include ABN for goods/services costing $1,000 or more)
  7. Unit description of goods/services and quantity
  8. GST exclusive AND GST inclusive (or include 'No GST has been charged' if GST is not applicable)
