Nanago is a town within the South Burnett Region which expanded rapidly around the 1860s owing to the gold rush but reverted to industries with more longevity when profits were not as high as anticipated. Dairy and beef are key exports, but the most precious and valuable export is the red cedar timber. The town hosts the Nanango Arts Festival each May.

Nanango is 190 km (2.5 hr drive) north west of Brisbane and 170 km (2 hr drive) west of the Sunshine Coast.
