Mungindi and Thallon lie on the boarders of New South Wales and Queensland respectively. Major Thomas Mitchell founded the town on an expedition of the area in 1830s. The state boarder follows the natural formation of the Barwon River, and the town is uniquely situated as the only town in the Southern Hemisphere that is located across two state lines – it even has different zones and areas with corresponding day-light savings.
Mungindi is on the Queensland/New South Wales boarder and is 500 km (5 hr 40 mins drive) west of Brisbane.
