Meet Sunny Ray: happy light, a true wonder of the world. Sunny loves her life but has always secretly wanted to know…what happens when she goes to bed? Meet her best friend in the sky the Magnificent Moon: the all night party guy who gets to stay up late EVERY single night! Then one bedtime Sunny Ray breaks all the rules and doesn’t go to sleep…What happens when the Sun and the Moon stay up all night together?

Sunny Ray and the Magnificent Moon comes from the imaginations of Clare Bartholomew and Daniel Tobias, creators of the internationally acclaimed Comedy Festival favourite, Die Roten Punkte, and one of Australia’s leading creators of theatre for young audiences, Arena Theatre Company directed by Christian Leavesley.

Sunny Ray features original music inspired by everything from folk to funk, disco and pop written by Bartholomew and Tobias with dramaturgy from Casey Bennetto (Keating! The Musical).

Sunny Ray and the Magnificent Moon will delight audiences aged four years and over.

Considerations

Sunny Ray and the Magnificent Moon is designed with tourability in mind. It is completely adaptable and can be performed in a Spiegeltent, black box space or proscenium arch theatre. Sunny Ray easily suits a festival environment. The show has minimal set and hand props and can be bumped-in in 6 hours.

It should be noted that Sunny Ray includes live music and amplified sound. A relaxed version of the show is also available (see above). Sunny Ray does include haze. For more information on technical requirements please see the attached technical rider

Unique Selling Point

Described as a “star-spangled theatre rock party” (Sydney Morning Herald) Sunny Ray and the Magnificent Moon features live, original music written by Clare Bartholomew and Daniel Tobias, known for known for their alter egos Otto & Astrid (Die Roten Punkte). The songs are inspired by folk, blues, disco and pop.

Sunny Ray and the Magnificent Moon is a new model of mobile production from Arena. Designed with tourability in mind, Sunny Ray enables smaller and regional venues to present a high quality, original production to their audiences, which may previously have been limited by geography.

Specifically designed for young people aged four and over Sunny Ray provides a theatrical experience that can be shared with the whole family. Including live music, audience interaction and lots of dancing -Sunny Ray has been a festival favourite in 2016. The performers are extremely generous and greet each audience member on their way out following each show. Arena can also offer workshops, Q&A sessions and other activities for families as requested by the presenter.

A relaxed version of Sunny Ray and the Magnificent Moon is available for audiences with particular needs and Arena can provide a social story as a resource for audience members with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Arena also encourages presenters to talk to us about any other accessibility requirements.
