MANOEUVRE's suite of non-verbal characters, comprises:

  • BLAX - Strangers in a strange land, stalking and creeping on their long insect-like legs. Beautiful and intriguing, they communicate with a haunting language of gaunt postures, spindly shapes and piercing gazes.

  • BUBBLES ON STILTS - Effervescent, exquisite, M Claire steps lightly with beauty and grace. Enveloped in a cloud of bubbles, leaving a trail of enraptured smiling faces.

  • JACK & JACK - Goofy mischief-makers, energetic, colourful and out for a good time; playing pranks and looking for playmates, Jack’n’Jack are definitely fun-filled!

  • RED RIBBON - An out of this world character in striking block red and over two and a half metres tall. Red Ribbon performs an extraordinary dance of fast-paced ribbon twirling.

  • ENTE - Gracefully rising above the ground, the public looks astonished when this Black & Red, long-legged creature flutters along, seducing and persuading its audience with delight. As this majestic creature strides through the crowd using its unusual shaped head to look serenely around all are left in cheer admiration and wonder.

  • LIP SERVICE - Under those demure veiled faces lies a mischievous sense of humour. A cheekiness that is reflected in Lip Service’s costuming, movement and style, as well as in their interactions with their audience.

Considerations

What do they need? (Technical Specifications)

MANOEUVRE requires:

  • A dry and/or non-slip surface.
  • 3m overhead clearance for the most part. A dressing room with:
  • Same Level or lift access to performance areas.
  • A "stilt up area", being a surface upon which to sit whilst putting on stilts. It should be about the height of a wheelie bin or a chair upon a table, and within the dressing room.
  • Basic Furnishings.
  • "Back Stage" access to toilets & running water.
  • Mirror and good lighting.
  • Water.

*MANOEUVRE performers are able to duck under doorways, travel in lifts and walk short distances in lower clearance areas.

Community Engagement

WORKSHOPS in Non-Verbal Communication & Mime

This workshop is all about non-verbal communication as a means of short-circuiting the censoring, logical brain, and developing a unique physical expression, ensemble spirit and group devising skills. Through a series of exercises, participants will work together in silence, developing skills in:

  • The theatrical application of physical skills.
  • Complicite and ensemble building.
  • Improved coordination and awareness of self in time, space and relation to others.
  • Improvisation.
  • Working with emotional and physical stimuli.
  • The power of dynamic stillness, considered and isolated movement.

Workshops facilitated by Clint Bolster, a highly experienced Teaching Artist of 18 years, leading many workshops and artist in residency programs globally for Young People, University Students, Adults and Elders.
