With narrative drawn directly from the conflict, and songs and music of the time, this show marks the centenary of Australia's involvement in the Great War, through the music and stories of the soldiers who served.
Interweaving narrative draws the program together, and is based around excerpts from the WWI diary of a Gallipoli veteran.
Music includes well-known popular songs of the period (such as It's a Long Way to Tipperary, Keep the Home Fires Burning, Roses of Picardy, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, with some songs and lyrics as sung by Australian soldiers), and classical works written by serving soldiers, such as the Australian composer FS Kelly (who served at Gallipoli), the English composers Vaughan Williams and Butterworth, and the Russian Myaskovsky.
The programme is presented as an uninterrupted sequence of music and readings, against a backdrop of images of the War. Length approximately 90 minutes plus interval.
There are opportunities for supplementary school presentations and workshops, based on the material of the formal concert performance.

- Considerations
Basic digital projection equipment and screen are needed for the images associated with the programme. Materials will be presented from the producer's laptop.
A quality acoustic piano (preferably a grand), professionally tuned for the performance is required, although we can provide an electric keyboard where an acoustic piano of appropriate quality is not available.
Enharmonie Chamber Ensemble is a Brisbane-based chamber ensemble with principal players Allan Hall (cello) and Tertia Hogan (piano). In concert ECE is often augmented by guest artists (violin, voice, narrator).
ECE aims to bring classical music to life for a range of audiences, performing instrumental recital programs and shows with an element of theatre, with story and song complementing the music. Over 2014-16 we will be presenting a series of concerts in association with 4MBS Classic FM, commemorating the First World War through the music, poetry and writings of the time. This series is a chance to bring some forgotten but very beautiful works from the period to a modern audience. Full details are available at our website. The first concert, "All Over Europe", was performed in July 2014 and recorded for radio broadcast.
Our 2013 programme, Life and Love - Clara's Story, which incorporated readings from letters as well as music by Clara and Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms, was performed to enthusiastic audiences from Sandgate across to Ipswich and featured as part of the 2013 4MBS Festival of Classics. A studio recording is soon to be released. (This programme is also available for touring by arrangement).

Unique Selling Point
The combination of music, readings and images in a dramatic context takes audiences on a powerful journey through the experience of the soldiers who served, and those who were left behind.
This program has a particular Gallipoli focus, through contemporary diary excerpts, and through the music of FS Kelly, a relatively unknown Australian classical composer with an interesting history who was killed in action in Gallipoli.
Marketing Materials
Flyers are available and can be adapted to suit. School presentations and workshops available; sample teacher notes and lesson plans will be available for download from our website by mid-September 2014, with full materials available early 2015. Material can be provided to suit School years 5-12 across a range of disciplines. We expect a CD to be available by early 2015, which will include a selection from this and our other WWI commemorative programs.
Community Engagement
Audiences will experience a wide variety of music from the war, with a particular emphasis on Gallipoli; timed to coincide with the centenary. Images, music and narrative, both the familiar and the unfamiliar, will serve as a meaningful way in which audiences can connect to 1915 and the WWI experience, which affected families and communities across Australia and the world.
There will be opportunities for supplementary school presentations and workshops, based on the material of the formal concert performance. Work material for school presentations will be available - see our website for details. Special school community performances with associated workshops may be possible; with this being negotiable dependent on the musical abilities and experience of the students involved. More general school instrumental workshops and masterclasses also available.
Elements of the program could be selected and adapted for use in community aged care setting, where the audience would be encouraged to participate in singing along with some of the more well-known popular WWI songs, along the lines of our smaller-scale program "Keep the Home Fires Burning". This program could tour in conjunction with other programs from Enharmonie Chamber Ensemble.
