Evocative. Sensual. Timeless

Flamenco Fire, Australia’s only national flamenco company, is joining forces with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, acclaimed flamenco artists direct from Spain (including Olayo Jiménez and Francesca ‘La Chica’), and Australia’s finest flamenco musicians and dancers (including Andrew Veivers, Simone Pope and Fernando Mira) to celebrate two decades on the stage.

Showcasing a retrospective of the past 20 years of Flamenco Fire productions while delving into the rich cultural heritage and diverse historical influences within flamenco, this 20th anniversary production is a celebration of the timeless art of flamenco.

Veinte Años explores the ancient textures of flamenco music, song and dance, woven together through an intricately orchestrated score that will transport you to the heart of España. Olé!

Flamenco Fire’s Veinte Años premieres at Queensland Performing Arts Centre's Concert Hall as part of the Brisbane Festival 2019.

Unique Selling Point

Since 1999, Flamenco Fire has explored the many facets of the rich history and passion of flamenco. Flamenco Fire’s theatre-based works have revelled in the grand seasonal festivals of Spain through Sol de Otoño (2008) and Primavera Mia (2009); delved into the lush cultural heritage and diverse historical influences within flamenco in Al-Andaluz (2010) and Gypsy Pathways (2014); and celebrated the grand postcard that became flamenco in the 1920s in Viva Sevilla (2016). Using original content, Flamenco Fire is a fully choreographed and orchestrated presentation of this unique contribution to contemporary Australian dance and music.

Community Engagement

The touring party provide a range of engagement activities that will contribute to the development of communities and arts practice including flamenco dance, guitar, singing and rhythm workshops. The engagement activities are suitable for beginners and experienced participants alike and provide an avenue for engagement within communities as well as an opportunity to build audiences for both the concert performances and other touring groups that draw on Spanish inspired music and dance.

All touring party members are experienced in teaching and workshop delivery, including workshops in regional and remote communities. Workshops (particularly dance) have proved very popular on past tours and there is an opportunity to include participants in the performance (provided workshops occur prior to the performance). Flamenco is an interactive art form and audiences are encouraged and supported to participate in performances through palmas (handclapping), jaleos (shouts of encouragement) and dance.
