Claire Dawson, UK star and currently Tasmania's Queen of Cabaret, has finally made it to Queensland! In this latest show she appears as her most popular character, the chronically confused SiSi. Wisecracking her way through her trademark comic monologues, she ponders life, love and how she came to find that gun in her hand and her man lying dead. SiSi is not your average girl and this is not your average cabaret spectacular! Continuous MTV style video projection creates the background to this very original work, allowing Claire to appear as many characters and as her own close harmony backing group in varied settings. She performs popular songs from the 60s to the present day as well as her own originals. Costumes are a feature and, be warned, the show is very, very funny! They sold out their first outing at the 2015 Spiegeltent and are touring Tasmania and mainland states before Edinburgh Fringe in 2016. With only one performer and a Tour/Stage Manager all that is required is projector, screen, audio and a stage of almost any size. Of course the show works well in small venues but, because of its big screen effects, scales up to large venues brilliantly.

Unique Selling Point

A Woman On The Edge is a visually complex Cabaret/Music Theatre presentation with an original look supplied by stunning video backgrounds (by AFI awarded Michael Gissing).
Despite its humorous approach to the difficulties of navigating through modern life, the show has proved to stimulate heated, in depth discussion around universal issues of identity and the paradox of individuality versus fitting in. Refreshingly told from a female point of view, it mocks and challenges many of the old assumptions about being a woman and her place in family and society. Audiences love the music and they love the comedy.

Marketing Materials

Marketing collateral can be supplied - pre formatted DL flyers and posters with space for local information, Digital flyers and a suite of show images, etc. A CD of the show's music will be available for sale.

Community Engagement

The overall impact of the show is described above. It stimulates and provokes genuine discussion about women and their many roles. Claire Dawson is a warm, extroverted personality who engages with audiences and communities in many ways. As well as a lifetime professional performer, she is an experienced singing teacher and yoga instructor. She has a great interest in working with people of all ages to develop their performing talents as well as life skills. Talk to us about community involvement and Claire's ideas.
