Council works closely with the creative industries, multicultural groups, peak government bodies, business, tourism and the broader community to foster creativity. Council owns and operates three of the City's key performance venues which attract national and international acts as well as providing a platform for local artists:

• Tanks Arts Centre • Cairns Performing Arts Centre • Munro Martin Parklands

Cultural Services team operates: • To lead, facilitate and contribute to the growth of creative communities and industries (including cultural tourism) across the region; and • To use arts and cultural programs to respond to specific social needs identified in various communities across the region.

Overview

Opened in December 2018, it is the only proscenium arch venue in Far North Queensland and stands alone in it's capacity to host major presenting companies from both Australia and overseas whilst also serving a valuable role in supporting local performing artists.

Built on the site of a former theatre, Cairns audiences are eager to experience new events in this state-of-the-art venue.

Overview: Completely devoid of internal partitioning, Tank 3 is an empty shell offering the greatest flexibility of all the spaces. Circus rigging is available, adding a new dimension to live entertainment, which may include perhaps an aerial circus performance during dinner - just one possibility to make your next event something completely ‘out of the box’. Other possibilities include theatre in the round, and with the amphitheatre sitting on the front door step to Tank 3, welcome drinks surrounded by fairy lit rain forest and musical performance, the potential is limitless. Munro Martin Parklands — Proscenium Stage

Overview

Since the redevelopment and re-opening in August 2016, Munro Martin Parklands has quickly become a locals favourite to experience ballet, contemporary music, new circus and Christmas pantomimes. The green proscenium stage is the largest of its kind in Australia and creates a perfect place to experience the arts under a tropical sky.

The Parklands also boast tropical plantings, vine covered pergolas and arbours and an open-air plaza for casual use for the public from 6am to 8.30pm, seven days a week except on ticketed event days.
