Not sure where to start when you're asked about Community Engagement? A show might be engaging, and the local community might attend but there's a big difference between presenting a performance and value adding with true community engagement.

Meaningful engagement with communities is an area of increasing significance for producers, presenters and funding bodies.  Engagement is about involving communities in your artistic process and product . It can include public programs such as workshops / seminars / masterclasses but it can also occur at a much deeper level by involving communities in the creation of touring works or engaging them in the actual delivery of the work.  

The Australia Council for the Arts has developed a great introductory community engagement resource which includes advice about how to approach communities, consult with community members, create work with and for communities and evaluating community engagement. It's a great place to start!
