The Australian Taxation Office has developed a simple six page fact sheet about how to set out a tax invoice. It includes several layout examples to guide you on where to place key details. It's a good idea to follow these standards to ensure your tax invoices are easy to read and most importantly easy to process.
Details to include on your Tax Invoice
- Supplier identity
- Supplier ABN
- Date of issue
- Include the words 'Tax Invoice'
- Invoice number
- Purchaser's identity (include ABN for goods/services costing $1,000 or more)
- Unit description of goods/services and quantity
- GST exclusive AND GST inclusive (or include 'No GST has been charged' if GST is not applicable)
