Located on the Flinders Highway, the small town of Richmond sits neatly between Hughenden and Julia Creek. While tourism is on the rise for this hamlet, there is a strong history and continuation of sheep and cattle farming. Richmond is also a location for many recent paleontological discoveries of rarely seen marine life, which has birthed a new festival, the Richmond Outback Fossil Festival, held bi-annually in April.
Richmond is located 1710 km (18 hr drive) north west of Brisbane and 400 km (4 hr 30 min drive) west of Mount Isa.
