Brilliant as the gem, Emerald is a location bountiful with the agriculture and cotton industry. The sounding area is known as The Gemfields, a brilliant landscape including the smaller towns of Rubyvale and Sapphire that also house the largest sapphire fields in the southern hemisphere. The town is also home to the man-made Lake Maraboon, which, when full, holds more water than Sydney Harbour, and holds several arts festivals for the Central Highlands, including the Arts, Multicultural, and Easter Sunflower Festival.
Emerald is 880 km (10 hr drive) north west of Brisbane and 270 km (3 hr drive) west of Rockhampton.
