Research indicates that rural town Dalby was named after the location of the same name from the Isle of Man due to the immigration populace of the time. Founded in the 1840s, Dalby has a booming population around its large-scale mining industry, engineering industry, and livestock and agricultural exports. Dalby is also a beacon of success for its eradication of the noxious weed, the prickly pear, which prior had been the scourge of the East Australian Coast – it also hosts the Dalby Delicious and DeLIGHTful Festival in August.

Dalby is 200 km (3 hr drive) west of Brisbane and 80 km (1 hr drive) north west of Toowoomba.
