Bursting with profits from the Gold Rush fever, the town of Croydon has receded to a quiet, idyllic and humble community in the Gulf Savannah. Founded in 1885, the town has a number of heritage listed buildings, with a museum about the mining history, and an annual heritage week in May.
Croydon is 2000 km (22.5 hr drive) north west of Brisbane and 530 km (6.5hr) west of Cairns.
