Declared a town in 1876, legend says that Crows Nest was named after the helpful Aboriginal Jimmy Crow, who gave directions and helped European settlers find their way through the Australian landscape. The remarkable gesture is believed to be the only memorial in Australia to an Aboriginal person after whom a town was named, and a statue carved in Jimmy’s likeness out of helidon rests at the town. Crows Nest is a hotspot for agriculture, tourism, and small scale manufacturing for engineering and meat production.
Crows Nest is 160 km (2 hr drive) west of Brisbane and 40 km (40 min drive) north of Toowoomba.
