Home of the famous Bundy rum, Bundaberg is the gateway to some of Queensland’s famous holiday destinations. Established 1870, the origins of the town’s name come from a fusion of Aboriginal words meaning ‘hill fort’. Although having its first success in exporting timber, Bundaberg is known nowadays for its sugar and fruit exports, and tourism - Bundaberg acts as a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, and is a popular holiday destination for its turtle rookery and beaches. Bundaberg has its own Arts Festival in March, and Crush Festival in October.
Bundaberg is 360 km (4 hr drive) north of Brisbane and 290 km (3 hr drive) south of Rockhampton.
