Production Applications for Showcase and Roadcase

Queensland Touring Showcase is a platform for producers and artists to build and maintain relationships with Queensland’s presenters and venues. Managed Venues and Regional Councils of various sizes will be in attendance.

Showcase Online is a pitching event designed to connect presenters and producers and highlight the best live performance touring work Queensland has to offer.

Roadcase is an extension of the Showcase process. The arTour team visit several regional and remote centres across Queensland to facilitate the pitching process on your behalf. Roadcase is designed specifically for smaller regional and remote councils, arts councils, and regional festivals to access your productions. Watch our video on Roadcase for producers. The next Roadcase will be held in early 2022.

You only need to apply once to be considered for either or both events and the independent selection panel will consider your production’s suitability for Showcase and Roadcase. Please consider carefully the type of show you want to pitch and understand the types of presenters in Queensland.

We are interested in all sorts of new work including;

  • ready to tour productions
  • productions yet to premiere
  • First Nations work
  • touring with engagement focus, residencies, community participation
  • metro and regional companies welcome
  • big shows, small shows and everything in between

Ideally, we’re looking for new productions from Queensland artists and producers that will be ready to tour in 2023.

Get some inspiration and see just how valuable touring is in Queensland with arTour’s touring case studies.

Production submissions are now open

Who can apply

Queensland Artists and Producers (independents, organisations, major companies) are welcome to apply. We strongly encourage producers living in regional Queensland, First Nations producers and artists of diversity to submit proposals. Artforms can range from theatre, dance, music, cabaret, circus. If your show is ready to tour in 2023 then we’d love to hear from you. Before you apply, please contact arTour to discuss your work and the Showcase process.

Interstate Producers and Artists (from states other than Queensland) are not eligible to apply for Queensland Touring Showcase in 2021. Please contact arTour should you wish to discuss.

Production applications should demonstrate the following:

Rigour / Quality
The production is well conceived and put together. Please consider artform development or audience engagement that is unique and effective.

Distinctiveness
The production and engagement offerings sit apart from and are different to other shows of a similar ilk or form. What makes your production distinct? Please consider your approach to storytelling, form and adaptability to different presenting contexts such as festivals and annual programs.

Appeal
The production will have strong appeal to a well-defined audience segment or demographic. It may consider audience development opportunities, boutique tastes right through to broad crossover appeal.

Value and tourability
The production is ready for touring in 2023, is reasonably priced and represents a sound programming investment for presenters as well as the producer’s capacity.

Flexibility
Due to the ever-changing climate, productions that demonstrate flexibility with physical distancing restrictions will be prioritised. Can the production be scaled up or down to suit audience sizes? Can it be performed in alternative venues or outdoors?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for both Showcase and Roadcase?
Yes and you can submit more than one production. Please ensure that your production is suited to the type of presenters and venues that attend each platform.

Do I apply if I am pitching at APAX in September 2021?
Yes Queensland Touring Showcase is all about providing a platform to deepen your connection to Queensland presenters and venues to further your touring potential. You are welcome to apply to Queensland Touring Showcase even if you are pitching at APAX. However, priority will be given to projects that haven't had an opportunity to pitch at the national market.

I already have interest from Queensland venues through various means, what should I do?
You are more than welcome to apply. Queensland Touring Showcase is all about providing you a platform to deepen your connection to Queensland presenters and venues to further your productions touring potential. We recommend making a note of this interest in the Showcase section of your application.

Can I call you and chat through my project?

How do I complete the budget?
Touring budgets always seem to trip people up. At the very basic, we need you to know how many people will be on tour and what is going on tour with you. We would really appreciate it if you talk to us about your budget before you submit. You can also view this arTour resource to help.

Do I need to provide a video?
If you have one, YES PLEASE. Promo videos or show reels are by far the best and easiest way to get an idea of your project.

How many submissions do you usually get and how many pitching spots are there for this year's Showcase?
Your submission will be one of many to be considered – we had over 100 to consider last year and this year we will be choosing around 20 pitches for Showcase and up to 10 pitches for Roadcase, so make sure you're clear and concise and sending a consistent message throughout your application.
